I discovered Team 44 Fitness while going to an introductory yoga class next door at Metta Yoga. I am so glad I stopped in and checked it out. I was a competitive athlete growing up and in college, however, all work and no play had made Tommy a fat boy. I spoke with Tony and decided to sign up for some personal training sessions (he also does small group sessions). His studio is very inviting- not your typical gym full of weight machines. Most exercises involve resistance, balance, etc. I find almost all of the exercises fun to do. I have been going twice a week and just completed my 7th session. Tony has also helped me with shopping lists and healthy eating habits. He gets a medical history before starting and is very good about stretching and injury prevention. He is always positive and pushes you to your limit, but never too far. If you want to change your lifestyle, get fit and have fun while doing it- I highly recommend Tony and Team 44. I had mixed feelings while writing this- I want this place to stay small and intimate and accommodating to my crazy schedule, but Tony is great and deserves to have a thriving business. I’ve been lucky enough to have a trainer off and on for the past 10 years and absolutely NO ONE compares to Tony or the experience I’ve had at Team Forty-Four. If that’s not enough justification to at least try going, here’s the full story… I started going to Tony last April after moving back to Phoenix and being referred by a good friend. I had gained some post-wedding weight and decided to try it out. His classes are 4 people in a private gym (or you can do personal training) and I was a little nervous the first time because the four people in my class were of VERY different fitness levels. I consider myself a pretty fit person and like a hard workout. There was someone in the class that was about 60. It didn’t matter. Tony made sure that the workout was customized for every individual in the class and you still got the attention of a personal workout. Needless to say, I DEFINITELY got a great workout and started melting pounds away and my husband started working out too. Tony had us set up goals, and through an app, helped plan our non-training day workouts too. We also talked about food habits and improvements to be made, but there was never any guilt if you missed a workout or ate a not so good for you meal. Tony is ALWAYS positive. My husband and I got pregnant two months into working out with Tony and now 6 weeks away from being due, I still am working out. Tony has stayed ahead of me knowing what exercises I should/shouldn’t do, what muscles need more strength preparing for new baby, etc. I still workout in a group setting with some very fit people, but it’s custom for me. I can honestly say, even after a horrible first trimester I’m still close to being in the best shape I’ve ever been in because of Tony! In addition to the workouts, Tony is awesome at setting up weekend events (e.g. hikes, bike rides, runs, batting cage outings, etc.) and you really feel like you’re a part of a workout community ranging from 13 year olds, to 60 year olds and everything in-between that are always full of positive energy and fun! The results just happen without you noticing how hard you’re actually working! I’ve already recommended Tony to all of my friends and family in the area and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend more! Tony is both an inspiration inside and outside of the gym. I have been working with Tony for 5 years and his unique approach to fitness has aided me in journeys both in weight loss and marathon training. Tony listens to each individual and their unique training needs. When I first began working with Tony I was in need of special types of exercises as I was nursing a back injury. Tony helped to strengthen other muscles and taught me useful stretching techniques that I use now on a regular basis and am now living back pain free. I am often in need of motivation, especially when training for an endurance event. Recently, through Team Forty Four, I have begun working with other gym attendees on opposing gym days to train for a 5k. Tony has helped to facilitate creating this team and provided us with a practice schedule to aid us in attaining our goals. Tony is supportive of my goals as an athlete but also as a team mate to others in the community. Working out at 8am a few days a week is now fun for me, the gym is energetic but individualized in a way that I have never experienced. I’ve been working with Tony since April 2012 and I can say without hesitation that he helped me change my life. Though far from the “perfect” body, I had always been active and even had a trainer before. But time passed and my body changed and I was basically starting over when it came to fitness. From day one, Tony was interested in my life habits and what I hoped to achieve by working with him. He was supportive and energetic. I could be open and honest with him as he was never discouraging or shaming. He always believed in me. We set long and short term goals together, always discussing what activities I enjoyed doing so that the goals were attainable. He would “check in” and if we needed to readjust, he helped me to that. He pushed me to do things like running races that I never wanted to do but for that I am grateful. I never doubted his total commitment to my personal goals and he maintained that even when I would falter. Tony made the nutrition aspect simple and doable and I soon discovered that eating healthy was not an insurmountable task reserved for celebrities with personal chefs. He once said, “the most important meal of the day is the next one”. That idea really helped me change my outlook when it came to nutrition – that one bad meal didn’t mean I threw the entire day away by eating poorly the rest of the day. Now I know that when I have a burger and fries, I can correct course with the other meals during the day. Tony understands and more importantly can explain that it’s a process and that if I kept up with the process, the results would come. He was absolutely correct, of course. Sports and exercise have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. However, approximately two years ago I came to a point where I was bored with my workouts. I started working out with Tony after buying a Living Social deal in October 2011. I never thought I would be one to feel comfortable working out with a personal trainer, but here I am two years later! Tony’s small group classes are a great fit for me – he adjusts each exercise to fit your fitness level all the while pushing you. Tony is always monitoring the class to make sure your form is correct to prevent injuries. If you do come to class with an injury, he works with you, and provides specific exercises to help you work through it and prevent future injuries. I started out with a Living Social coupon and was only going to do that and learn the exercises so I could do them on my own. After the 4 weeks time was done I told my husband there was no way in the world I would push myself to exercise like Tony does. I was not in stellar condition when I started and lagged behind everyone else in the class. Prior to working out with Tony, I had been working out for many years and my workout routine was monotonous and boring. At times, I kept doing the same workout and didn’t know how to challenge myself. My husband was already training with Tony for sometime and he persuaded me to give Tony a try.
